The successful cooperation between TUIfly and Haribo is into its 2nd round. Since February 2010 HaribAIR has been happy to acquire another TUIfly holiday jet, now wearing a special gold livery to act as an ambassador for the HARIBO company. This sister to the "GoldbAIR" that has already been flying for 2 years can accommodate 189 passengers and is used on the regular TUIfly routes. Within the last few years, the C-17 Globemaster has become the most important US Air Force multifunction transport aircraft. In addition to world-wide supply flights the C-17 has become indispensable for transporting the wounded out of crisis areas in Iraq and Afghanistan. Already in the 1970s there were plans to replace the C-130 and later the C-141 also. In 1981 McDonnell Douglas received the design order. The prototype made its first flight on 15.9.1991. Officially the C-17 went into service with the 437th Airlift Wing out of Charleston AFB on 14.7.1993. In the meantime eleven USAF wings have been equipped with the C-17. The capabilities of the C-17 in terms of long-range flights and short take-offs and landings on temporary airfields made it the ideal transport for military, humanitarian and peace missions. It can carry up to 3 M2 Bradley or one M1 Abrams tank with additional cargo. By the time it is due to go out of production in 2010 the USAF will have bought 205 machines. Läs mer

The International Space Station is the largest man-made extra-terrestrial object. The construction and operation of this space station represent the greatest scientific and technical project ever carried out in global collaboration. Highly qualified engineers and scientists from 15 nations participate in the installation and have thereby created a serviceable centre for space research for peaceful purposes in a low orbit round the earth. Biological and materials sciences, technology, earth resources technology and astronomy have been given totally new impetus by this space station. The space lab circles the globe at a speed of approx. 28,000 km/h on an orbit between 350 and 450 km above the earth. One earth orbit takes approx 90 minutes. The station is powered by gigantic solar sails extending over a total area of 4,500 m² generating 110 kW of electric power. The individual components such as externalsolar collectors, experiment platforms, research and living modules are anchoredto a huge lattice tower structure. The total weight is approx 500 tonnes. The international partners who are participating in the construction and utilization of this space station include the USA, Russia, Japan, Canada and Europe. The European Space Agency (ESA) is an important partner in this project and is responsible for the "Columbus" space laboratory (COF) and the automatic transport vehicle (ATV). A major NASA contractor, Boeing, is responsible for the tubular space frame, solar panels and various other modules. In future, the space station will provide a permanent orbital workplace for men and women from many countries and, according to the current schedules, should be completed in 2006. The first module went into orbit in 1998 and it will be assembled piece by piece within 12 years. The International Space Station is a platform, not only for leading edge know-how, but also for essential research into space and all its mysteries.

The Lockheed Super Constellation is still considered to be the most elegant transport aircraft of all time. In June 1955 the 1608th Air Transport Wing of the MATS in Charleston, South Carolina received the first of an order for 31 of the C-121C Constellation, the military version of the L.1049. Its task was to lift cargo and passengers for military units and humanitarian missions. Thus between 1956 and 1957 they provided the air bridge to Hungary and brought refugees from Eastern Europe to the USA. Another Constellation became famous as the VC-121E that served as private aircraft for the then American president Dwight D. Eisenhower.

With the legendary Super Constellation the era of piston-engined aircraft both reached its peak and came to an end. In 1950, in order to keep up with growing numbers of passengers, Lockheed extended the fuselage of the L-749. TWA was one of their first customers. On 10th January 2006 Austrian Airlines again drew attention to a long-range jet by covering it all over with an impressive special design. The Austrian airline subjected a jumbo jet A340-300 to a complete transformation to promote that symbol of Austrian art and culture - the Vienna Philharmonic - throughout the world. In close collaboration between Austrian Airlines, the Vienna Philharmonic and the Austrian mint, a design was created for the aircraft that presented special features of the world-famous orchestra and its musical instruments. The Airbus A340-300 OE-LAL is mainly used on the long-haul route to Japan and also on the North American route. The decorative elements comprising a total of 230 individual pieces of foil with a total area of approx. 600 mý and a total weight of 70 kg were attached to it at Vienna Airport. The A340 has four type CFM56-5C2G engines delivering a maximum thrust of 140,000 kN each. The maximum range with full payload is about 12,800 km. The Scandinavian airline SAS has also used the A340 successfully on long-haul routes since 2001.

The B-2 bomber was developed as a successor to the ouTDated B-52 and as an alternative to the unfavourable B-1 bomber. A special, absorbing coating renders the Stealth bomber invisible to radar.
