Strategic bomber Tu-160 can strike any object on Earth with nuclear and conventional weapon. The first flight of Tu-160, an aircraft with complete set of equipment for series bomber, took place October 6, 1984. The variable sweep wing makes Tu-160 capable of flying both at low altitudes in the regime of movement along the landscape and at high altitudes (also with supersonic speed). Special features of aerodynamic layout together with realization of a range of technical solutions significantly decrease the radar distinctness of the bomber. Tu-160 is the largest series combat aircraft in the world. The Russian Air Forces have 14 machines.

The B-2 bomber was developed as a successor to the ouTDated B-52 and as an alternative to the unfavourable B-1 bomber. A special, absorbing coating renders the Stealth bomber invisible to radar. The first flight took place at the Edwards AFB on 17.7.1989. Four General Electric F 118-GE 100 engines give the B-2 a maximum speed of 764 km/h at a service altitude in excess of 15,000 metres. Its range when fully laden is 10.00 km, or about 19,000 km with air refuelling.

The Lockheed Super Constellation is still considered to be the most elegant transport aircraft of all time. In June 1955 the 1608th Air Transport Wing of the MATS in Charleston, South Carolina received the first of an order for 31 of the C-121C Constellation, the military version of the L.1049. Its task was to lift cargo and passengers for military units and humanitarian missions. Thus between 1956 and 1957 they provided the air bridge to Hungary and brought refugees from Eastern Europe to the USA. Another Constellation became famous as the VC-121E that served as private aircraft for the then American president Dwight D. Eisenhower.

On 10th January 2006 Austrian Airlines again drew attention to a long-range jet by covering it all over with an impressive special design. The Austrian airline subjected a jumbo jet A340-300 to a complete transformation to promote that symbol of Austrian art and culture - the Vienna Philharmonic - throughout the world. In close collaboration between Austrian Airlines, the Vienna Philharmonic and the Austrian mint, a design was created for the aircraft that presented special features of the world-famous orchestra and its musical instruments. The Airbus A340-300 OE-LAL is mainly used on the long-haul route to Japan and also on the North American route. The decorative elements comprising a total of 230 individual pieces of foil with a total area of approx. 600 mý and a total weight of 70 kg were attached to it at Vienna Airport. The A340 has four type CFM56-5C2G engines delivering a maximum thrust of 140,000 kN each. The maximum range with full payload is about 12,800 km. The Scandinavian airline SAS has also used the A340 successfully on long-haul routes since 2001.

The twin-jet-engined Airbus A 319 is a shortened version of the A 320, currently the most up-to-date passenger aircraft and one of the most successful in its class worldwide. The A 219 is used by many airlines on short to medium routes. The range with 124 passengers in the two class configuration is about 7,200 km, the longest in its class. British Airways currently has 33 A 319s, the first of which went into service in October 1999. German Wings has 6 in operation.
