The robust and heavily armed Republic Gunship is used for air-to-ground and air-to-air combat and for transporting infantry troops. The gunship pilots sit one behind the other in the cockpit. The primary armament of the ship, two massive rocket launchers, are mounted on its back, the lighter lasers are operated from glazed bubble-shaped wing mounts. Additional glazed gun turrets can be extended. The Clone troops carried can defend themselves with their own or the manoeuvrable on-board weapons that are kept in the cargo area. The Republic Gunship plays a central role in the War on Genosis, in which the Jedi and Clone troops engaged in massive action against Count Dookus Droid army. The speed of the gunship is a decisive advantage against earthbound vehicles.

The modified T-47 Airspeeder built by the Incom Corporation has an afterburner that enables it to reach a speed of a good 1100 km/h, but it is not capable of space flight. As one of the most widely used types of spaceship in the Start Wars Galaxy, the T-47 is met with in practically every industrialised world. The T-47 modified by the rebels is known as the Snowspeeder and was used in the battle on the ice planet Hoth in order to hold the approaching AT-AT in check. The modifications also included technical alterations to prevent the immediate freezing of the drive systems. Thanks to their high speeds the Snowspeeders are difficult to hit. The strong ropes that were originally intended for the transport of heavy loads and were used effectively against the AT-ATs are fired like harpoons. The pilot who shares the cockpit back to back with the gunner can, if required, take over complete control of the weapons in addition to the navigation.

The German Commando Special Forces (KSK) officially went into service on 20th September 1996. The task of the KSK, in addition to the execution of long-distance reconnaissance missions and combat behind enemy lines, is defence against terrorist threats within the terms of engagement of the forces and the release of hostages within the framework of evacuation missions. The KSK, which is 1000 soldiers strong, comprises four commando companies and one long-distance reconnaissance company. After missions to capture war criminals in Bosnia and Kosovo, there were latterly over 100 KSK troops involved in seeking out AlQaida terrorists in Afghanistan.
