In the unmotorised divisons of the German army the artillery continued to use horses throughout the Second World War, that is to say, all guns and supply vehicles were horse-drawn. The type 18, 105mm field howitzer was the standard gun of the division artillery with four guns allocated to each battery.

Pilots & Ground Staff Luftwaffe WWII German pilots showed their aptitude for air combat in many missions during WorldWar II. The kit contains Luftwaffe fighter and bomber crews from the years 1935-1945. There are mechanics in addition to seated pilots to place in the cockpit and standing pilots to place outside the aircraft. The figures are compatible with 1:72 scale models of aircraft. The sizes are varied to enable the figures fit in different cockpits.

Apart from the harshness and rigours of the Russian winter it was especially the deployment of Siberian divisions which thwarted German plans to conquer Moskow by the end of 1941. In contrast with the German Army, the Siberian units benefited from special winter clothing and were trained to operate at low temperatures.

The attack on France at the beginning of WW I by the German Army was soon brought to a standstill. From this time on, the fighting in the trenches determined the events on the Western front. In 1916, the German Army was equipped with the steel helmet which offered considerably more protection than the spiked helmet worn previously.

To meet the many different demands made on the German armys pioneer force in the Second World War, it was necessary to form increasingly specialized tasks units, such as the landing pioneers, the tank and parachute unis. A special mention should also be made of the storm units which operated with the infantry to lead direct attacks on enemy strongholds.

Modern ground forces are distinguished by extensive motorization and troops that are protected by tanks. The armoured infantrymen element in tank divisions do battle in the main from their combat vehicles, which they only leave in response to the tactical situation, for instance to secure territory or broken down vehicles.

The German Commando Special Forces (KSK) officially went into service on 20th September 1996. The task of the KSK, in addition to the execution of long-distance reconnaissance missions and combat behind enemy lines, is defence against terrorist threats within the terms of engagement of the forces and the release of hostages within the framework of evacuation missions. The KSK, which is 1000 soldiers strong, comprises four commando companies and one long-distance reconnaissance company. After missions to capture war criminals in Bosnia and Kosovo, there were latterly over 100 KSK troops involved in seeking out AlQaida terrorists in Afghanistan.
