The MiG 3 was delivered to the Soviet Air Force in the spring of 1941 as an improved MiG-1. This high performance aircraft proved to be absolutely superior in high-altitude air combat with German aircraft. By the beginning of 1942, 3172 examples of this single-seater, designed as a fighter-interceptor for medium and high altitudes, had been built.

The Heinkel He 219, one of the most effective German combat aircraft, was used specially as a night fighter and was the very first aircraft to be produced in series with ejector seats. Its capability at the front was tested on the night of 11/12 June 1943 by Squadron Leader Streib of NJG 1 night fighter unit out of Venlo, Holland, who on this sortie was able to shoot down five enemy bombers. The He 219 achieved considerable success in combat against Allied bomber units due to the incorporation of new weapons technology such as the rear-mounted "Schräge Musik = hot music" (Mk 108 cannon).

In the First World War history was written by Baron Manfred von Richthofen in his red Fokker tri-plane. The Dr. 1 was the most manoeuvrable of all the aircraft in use and achieved high rates of climb. The Dr. 1 that was delivered to the troops in June 1917 was withdrawn from the front at the end of 1917, but Richthofen continued to fly it until April 1918.

The Fw 189 close reconnaissance and liaison aircraft went into series production in the summer of 1940. The Allies later designated it the Flying Eye. In the hands of an experienced pilot the aircraft was extremely manoeuvrable and was capable of a top diving speed of 502 k/h. The Fw 189 was the German close reconnaissance plane on the Eastern Front until 1944. The airframe proved to be very sTABLE, in fact some machines even returned safe and sound after Russian ram attacks. A total of 864 of the Fw 189 were produced.
